Mallards Go for Sweep
May 30, 2018 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Madison Mallards News Release
Tonight at Warner Park, the Madison Mallards take on the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters for the second game of a two-game set after a blowout opening night win last night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM and gates will open at 4:30 PM. Tonight's game features the Chet's Car Care 2018 schedule pen giveaway
Tonight also marks the season's first un-beer-lievable Wednesday featuring O'So Brewing Company. Free samples of beer that are not featured in the Great Dane Duck Blind will be available along with giveaways, contests and more!
Scheduled to start on the mound for the Mallards tonight is Dalton Wiggins, a freshman righty from Marietta College. Wiggins started eight games this spring and posted a 2-1 record, pitching 53.0 total innings and holding batters to a .260 clip at the plate. Wiggins will look to match Dalton Morrow's (Southwest Baptist) strong outing from last night when the lefty tossed 7.0 innings of two-hit ball.
The Mallards lineup got off to a hot start last night, cracking 13 hits and scoring ten runs in the blowout win. Jayse McLean was named the Northwoods League Player of the Night after going 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and five RBI. McLean, David Vinsky (Northwood), Jake Randa (NW Florida State) and Hunter Hisky (Southwest Baptist) all had multiple knocks last night and look to continue their strong performances and lead the Mallards to a series sweep tonight.
The Rafters plan to send Trayson Kubo to the bump to oppose Wiggins. Kubo, a junior righty from Stephen F. Austin, tossed 31.0 innings this spring and accumulated 34 strikeouts while holding a 5.52 ERA. Madison tossed around Rafters starter Charlie Ruegger last night and ended up forcing the Rafters to use six total pitchers.
