Green Bay Rockers News Release

Loves Park, Ill. - The Green Bay Bullfrogs (0-1) were only able to muster three total hits in a tough 9-0 defeat to the Rockford Rivets (1-0) from Rivets Stadium in Loves Park, Ill. Tuesday evening. Both sides were held scoreless through the first two and a half innings of action before the hosts opened the offensive floodgates in the third frame and never looked back. The Rockford offense exploded with 10 total hits to help scratch across their nine runs.

The Frogs wrap-up their two-game road trip at Rockford tomorrow night for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch. Tomorrow's contest can be heard on WOCO Radio (WOCO.Caster.FM online) at 6:20 p.m. CT. Freshman right-handed pitcher Jake Zatopek (Incarnate Word) is the probable starter for Green Bay in the road series finale.

Bullfrogs right fielder Jake Munoz (Sophomore, Univ. of San Francisco) led the offense with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate, while third baseman Ethan Ibarra (Junior, St. Cloud State) finished 1-for-3 in the contest. All three Green Bay hits were singles.

Green Bay tallied the first hit of the contest as Munoz grounded a single up the middle in the top of the third inning. Munoz eventually advanced to third base on a stolen base and wild pitch, but the Frog bats could not bring him home.

Rockford struck first in the home half of the third with a RBI single from Rivets left fielder Braden Mosley to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage. Rockford second baseman Joey Butler then scored from third base on a catcher throw down to second base to make it a 2-0 contest. Rockford added two more in the fourth on a two-RBI single from center fielder Brennan Reback.

The Rivets scored at least one run in from the third until the seventh inning, scoring twice in three of those frames and once in the bottom of the sixth. Rockford was finally held scoreless in the eighth. Bullfrogs right-handed pitcher Jason Applegate (Junior, Villanova) posted a solid debut on the bump in relief. The VU Wildcat compiled five strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings of work, while allowing only three hits.

Rockford right-hander Cole Bellair got the win, improving to 1-0. Bellair tossed seven scoreless innings with only one hit allowed and six strikeouts. Green Bay righty Cody Wernli (R-freshman, UT Arlington) took the loss, falling to 0-1. Wernli finished second on the Bullfrog pitching charts, fanning four Rivets in the contest.
