Duluth pitching dominates as Huskies collect first win of 2018
May 30, 2018 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Duluth Huskies News Release
The Tyger Peterson era has officially begun in Duluth as the first-year manager picked up his first career win as coach of the Huskies. The scoring started for Duluth in the fourth inning when Ben McClain drove in Augie Isaacson to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. Mankato would quickly answer back by scoring one of their own in the bottom of the inning to even the game at one. The Moondogs would take the lead in the seventh when Kenton Crews delivered with a two-out RBI single to give Mankato a 2-1 lead. Duluth would rally in the eighth when General McArthur and Bradley Norton scored on a pair of wild pitches to give the Huskies a 3-2 lead. The bullpen would seal it from there as Kieran Shaw struck out the side in the eighth and Kevin Folman retired Moondogs in order in the ninth to pick up his first save of the season, and the Huskies first win of 2018.
The story of the game however, was the performance Duluth starter Christian Cosby. Cosby overpowered Mankato hitters by striking out nine Moondogs in 6.2 innings of work and only allowed five batters to reach base. Shaw and Folman carried the Huskies to the finish line by striking out five combined in 2.1 innings. Duluth pitching rebounded in a big way by allowing only three walks a day after they gave up nine. With the win, the Huskies improve to 1-1 on the season and will continue their road trip on Thursday in Bismarck against the Larks (2-0). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
