EVERETT, Wash. - The AquaSox bombarded the Volcanoes with a season-high 18 hits to win by a score of 11-6 Saturday night in front of more than 4,500 fans at Memorial Stadium.
Catcher Marcus Littlewood got the party started in the second inning when he hit a two-out solo home run to dead center. Right fielder Alfredo Morales followed with a triple to easily score on a single by Janelfry Zorilla for the second run of the game.
Salem-Keizer took the lead in the top of the third with three runs thanks to six walks in the inning. Ambioris Hidalgo relieved Sox starter Steven Ewing after allowing five consecutive free passes. Hidalgo (2-2, 3.18 ERA) would throw 2.2 innings in relief to earn the win, allowing no earned runs to extend the right-hander's scoreless streak to 14.1 innings. Salem-Keizer starter Lorenzo Mendoza (0-2, 6.35 ERA) was hit hard in 2.2 innings of work to earn the loss.
The Frogs would retake the lead in the home half of the third with three runs of their own. Brock Hebert started the rally with a leadoff triple and advanced 90 feet to score on a sacrifice fly by Taylor Ard. Two more runs came around to score on a two-out double by Morales, giving Everett a 5-3 lead after three innings of play.
Ard picked up another RBI the next inning on a line-drive single, and Patrick Kivlehan followed with a double to plate two more runs and give the Sox an 8-4 lead after four.
Kivlehan recorded another double when he pulled a pitch in the sixth inning, giving it a ride to the top of the left-field wall. Morales also recorded his second two-bagger of the game when he pulled one from left side and sent it down the right-field line to knock in two more. The Frogs would score another run in the seventh to finish with 11 runs.
The AquaSox (33-16, 5-6) will look to win the series Sunday when they face the Volcanoes (17-32, 4-7) for the final game of the three-game set. Right-hander Dylan Unsworth (5-0, 3.21 ERA) will take the mound for the Sox, and will be opposed by Edmonds, Wash., native Chris Johnson (1-2, 4.61 ERA) of Salem-Keizer.
