Boise Hawks News Release
SPOKANE, Wash. - Dan Vogelbach went 2-for-4 with three RBI and the Boise bullpen tossed three-plus innings of scoreless baseball, as the Hawks evened their series with the Spokane Indians with a 6-2 victory, before 7,012 fans at Avista Stadium.
The victory for the Hawks was their first in Spokane in five tries this season and moves the club alone atop the Northwest League East Division.
Vogelbach got Boise an early lead, going the other way for a two-run first inning single to give the Hawks a 2-0 edge. Spokane would even the score, manufacturing a run in the second, then adding a Cam Schiller RBI triple in the third.
Boise would take the lead for good in the fifth, as Stephen Bruno scored on a Shawn Blackwell wild pitch, with Marco Hernandez scoring an inning later on a passed ball to extend the lead to 4-2. Vogelbach would push the lead to 5-2 in the seventh with a run-scoring single, picking up Bruno who led the frame off with a double.
Spokane would have chances in the latter innings, putting runners at first and second in the seventh, but Matt Iannazzo got Royce Bollinger to ground into a double play, then struck out Saquan Johnson with runners at first and second to end the eighth.
Starter Tayler Scott won his third straight game, going five-plus innings, allowing just one earned run and five hits. Iannazzo tossed two and two-third innings of shutout relief, striking out a season-high four. Bruno had two hits in the win.
Blackwell took the loss for Spokane, allowing three runs in two-plus innings of relief, with Schiller recording the lone multi-hit game, going 2-for-5.
Game 3 of the series is tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m. (PT), with Ian Dickson meeting Abel De Los Santos.
