HOW IT HAPPENED: Everett plated four runs in the first inning of Wednesday's meeting between the two teams, and they nearly did the same twenty-four hours later, too.
After a Zach DeLoach groundout and a Patrick Frick strikeout made it seem as though the Frogs would go quietly in the first, Austin Shenton worked a walk on a full count and Carter Bins then drew a walk of his own to put a pair of AquaSox runners on base.
Kaden Polcovich, who entered the series with just one triple on the season, then stepped up and roped his third triple over just the last two games down the right field line, scoring both base runners and putting Everett in front first, 2-0. Jack Larsen followed with a single to center field that allowed Polcovich to trot home and put Everett up by three.
It was a brand-new ballgame one inning later, though, as the Emeralds responded with three runs of their own in the second.
Sean Roby, celebrating his twenty-third birthday, led off the inning with this seventh homer of the season and his second in as many days, a solo shot to left field that got the Emeralds on the board and cut Everett's lead to two. Five batters later, after a Tyler Fitzgerald walk and a Robert Emery ground-rule double, Nolan Dempsey stepped up for his first at-bat as an Emerald since being promoted from the Arizona Complex League earlier in the week, and he delivered a game-tying base knock by driving in both runners with a double to left that scored Fitzgerald and Emery to make it 3-3.
The Ems were in the driver's seat one inning later after utility man Brett Auerbach led off the inning with a bloop single to center and then stole second base. The birthday boy Sean Roby then delivered once more, doubling on a sharp liner that got all the way to the right-center field wall that easily scored Auerbach and put the Emeralds in front for the first time, 4-3.
Eugene's lead was short-lived, though, as Joseph Rosa teed off in the top of the fourth for his first homer of the season, a solo blast that tied the game at 4-4, and Everett plated three runs an inning later in the fifth behind a Patrick Frick single, an Austin Shenton double, a Kaden Polcovich two-RBI single, and a Cade Marlowe RBI double that made it 7-4, Frogs, in the fifth.
Marlowe kept mashing two innings later when he belted Everett's second solo homer of the game, just his second of the season, and Austin Shenton tallied Everett's third solo blast in the eighth to make it 9-4. The AquaSox added one more in the ninth when Polcovich scored on a passed ball, touching home for the third time in the game and plating Everett's tenth run overall.
Meanwhile, the Emeralds offense was held in check from the fourth inning on as the AquaSox netted the 10-4 win in front of 2,517 fans at PK Park.
PEAK PERFORMERS:
Sean Roby - 1B: Not a bad birthday for the big fella. Roby homered for the second straight game while going 2-for-4 overall with the homer, a double, two RBIs and one run.
Brett Auerbach - 2B: The do-it-all utility man had another strong night at the plate, finishing with a team-high three hits while also scoring a run and stealing a bag.
Nolan Dempsey: Making his Emeralds debut, Dempsey's only base knock of the day was a big one, delivering a two-RBI double in his first at-bat as an Emerald.
