Springfield Cardinals News Release
The Frisco RoughRiders improved to 8-0 in the second half, winning for the second straight night at Hammons Field, knocking off the Cardinals by a score of 5-1 on Friday night.
Frisco starter Tommy Hunter pitched six shut-out innings, allowing three hits while striking out a season-high eight batters.
Cards' starter Adam Daniels (1-2) struggled, allowing four runs on nine hits over 4 1/3 innings.
Frisco got to Daniels early with an unearned run, as Elvis Andrus doubled and later scored on an error, making it 1-0 in the first inning.
J.T. Restko homered off Daniels to open the second, giving Frisco a 2-0 lead. They added two more in the fifth, taking a 4-0 advantage and chasing Daniels from the game with one out in the fifth. Scott Vander Weg came into a bases-loaded situation with just one out and escaped with no additional damage.
Vander Weg did get taken deep in the sixth though, as Ben Harrision homered to right-center field, his 14th of the year, making it 5-0.
Springfield got their lone run of the game in the eighth inning, as Allen Craig scored on a wild pitch by Frisco reliever Alfredo Gonzalez, making it 5-1.
The Cards would get no closer though, as they left two on board in the eighth and went 1-2-3 in the ninth against Frisco reliever Brennan Garr.
Harrison finished the night with three hits and a walk for Frisco.
Mark Hamilton led Springfield offensively, going 3-3 with a walk.
Springfield (3-4) will send Tyler Herron (3-4) to the mound on Saturday night, while Frisco will counter with Trey Hodges (6-4). On Saturday night, 5,000 fans will receive a Black Cardinals Cap thanks to Ozarks Coca-Cola. Game time is 6:10pm and gates open at 5:10pm. Don't forget that the Cards are home through Tuesday, taking on the Frisco RoughRiders and the Midland RockHounds, as part of the six-game home stand.
