Tulsa Drillers News Release
June 27, 2008 - Saturday night, the Tulsa Drillers will be happy to play their last game in Corpus Christi this regular season. The Drillers are 0-5 at Whataburger Field this season following a 5-0 defeat to the Hooks Friday night.
Corpus Christi starting pitcher Brian Bogusevic blanked the Drillers for the first six innings, allowing only three hits. Relievers Ryan McKeller and Samuel Gervacio continued the shutout as they combined to hold the Drillers without a hit over the final two innings.
The loss was the second straight for Tulsa and dropped its second-half record to 4-3.
Brandon Hynick suffered the loss to fall to 4-6, despite allowing only three runs in his six innings of work.
The Hooks got the only runs they needed in the third inning. Bogusevic helped his own cause by beginning the rally with a one-out double. After a single by Drew Sutton, Chris Johnson belted a two-out home run to put Corpus Christi in front 3-0.
Sutton increased the lead to 5-0 with a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh off Tulsa reliever Jarrett Grube.
Hynick accounted for one of Tulsa's three hits with a two-out double in the fifth. Tony Blanco doubled in the second, and Jeff Kindel singled in the fifth.
The Drillers and Hooks will play the final game of their three-game series Saturday night in Corpus Christi. Major League veteran Todd Ritchie will make his Drillers' debut. Ritchie has 43 career big league wins, including a career high 15 for Pittsburgh in 1999.
Corpus Christi will counter with Polin Trinidad (1-2, 2.93 ERA). First pitch at Whataburger Field is scheduled for 7:05PM.
