Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI - Chris Johnson's three-run blast in the third and six shutout innings by Brian Bogusevic keyed a 5-0 Corpus Christi victory over Tulsa Friday before 7,297.
The Hooks improved to 3-5 in the second half of Texas League play. Tulsa is 4-3.
Johnson's eighth home run of 2008 came with Bogusevic and Drew Sutton aboard. Bogusevic smacked a one-out double to center and Sutton followed with an infield single. One out later, Johnson deposited a pitch from Tulsa starter and loser Brandon Hynick (4-6) onto the left-field berm.
Sutton provided insurance in the seventh with his ninth home run, a two-run shot to left, after Lou Santangelo roped a double inside the third-base bag. Sutton extended his hitting streak to 10 games a night after establishing the Hooks franchise mark for career doubles with 53.
Bogusevic (2-5) scattered three hits, walked two and struck out two. Hynick worked six frames as well and was responsible for seven hits and a strikeout before giving way to Jarrett Grube.
Ryan McKeller and Sammy Gervacio combined for four strikeouts in three scoreless innings.
Tulsa's Todd Ritchie (1-0) squares off against left-hander Polin Trinidad (1-2) Saturday at 7:05.
