Fresno Grizzlies News Release
EL PASO, TEXAS - Major League Rehab Assignments can sometimes work into the favor of a team and Friday night at Southwest University Park saw the Astros' Jake Marisnick propel the Fresno Grizzlies (47-35) to a 9-5 win over the El Paso Chihuahuas (40-41) in front of a record-setting 10,169 fans.
Fresno starter Asher Wojciechowski struggled through a four-run bottom of the first, but Marisnick picked the righty up by lining a bases clearing double down the right field line to tie the game at four in the top of the second. The two teams traded runs in the third and remain tied until Fresno put together a four-run ninth inning.
Marisnick led off the top of the ninth with a walk, stole second, stole third, and was able to jog home when Matt Duffy knocked a go-ahead RBI single into center. Duffy would move to third on a double by Jonathan Villar, and then both runners scored on a two-run single by newcomer Tyler White. Andrew Aplin chipped in an insurance run with a single into right to make it 9-5.
Wojciechowski was key to keeping the game locked at five. He struck out a season-high 10, which also ties the team high this year previously set by Mike Hauschild and Dan Straily. After Wojciechowski gave up an RBI double to Tommy Medica in the third, the righty allowed only one hit over the rest of his outing and even struck out the side in his sixth and final frame.
Relievers Jordan Jankowski (2.0 IP) and Kevin Chapman (1.0 IP) worked around five combined walks to keep the Chihuahuas scoreless over the final three frames.
The victory gives Fresno a series victory in the four-game set and helps salvage a road trip that began with four losses in five games at Reno.
The first-place Fresno Grizzlies are set to host the second-place Tacoma Rainiers starting on Saturday, July 4th at Chukchansi Park. The two top teams in the Pacific Northern Division, separated by only 6.0 games, will meet in an important four-game series through Tuesday, July 7th in Downtown Fresno.
A postgame fireworks extravaganza, presented by ABC30, is the signature promotion for the July 4th home game, but the Grizzlies are also putting on a pregame live concert by Chasing Indigo, holding a Hot Dog Eating Contest (presented by Armour Eckrich) during the second inning, and offering a Chorizo Mac & Cheese topped Hot Dog served out of the Dukes Downtown stand in right field. Gates to the park open at 5:35 to the general public and first pitch is set for 7:05 PM. Tickets are still available and can be purchased online here.
Fresno will follow up the Fourth of July celebration with Military Appreciation Night (presented by PG&E) on Save Mart Sunday (July 5th) at 6:05 PM with the second game of the series against the Rainiers. Discounted $6 tickets are available to all past and present military service members and anyone in their group. Simply show proof of military service at the Chukchansi Park Box Office to redeem the deal. The Grizzlies will be wearing Captain America themed jerseys on the field, along with red, white, and blue colored caps. The jerseys will be available for purchase in a silent auction held along the first base concourse. Proceeds from the jersey auction benefit Operation Homefront, which provides financial and food assistance, repairs, and help to the families of our service members and wounded warriors.
