Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Fourth of July marked a historic occasion at Dell Diamond Saturday night as 13,086 poured in to see the Round Rock Express and Nashville Sounds begin a four-game series and celebrate Independence Day. The total attendance ranks third all-time in Dell Diamond history and is only the third game to exceed 13,000 fans. The total topped last year's season high 12,951, which also came on July 4.
Dell Diamond's largest crowd ever came on June 16, 2006 as Roger Clemens made a rehabilitation start against the New Orleans Zephyrs that summoned 13,475 fans to the ballpark. The only other game to surpass the 13,000 mark before tonight's contest was on June 18, 2004 when Andy Pettitte also made a rehab start at Dell Diamond, drawing 13,414 as the Express faced off with Frisco, still in the Double-A era. Round Rock's previous high attendance this season came on April 24 with 11,769 in attendance to see the Colorado Springs Sky Sox.
With tonight's attendance, the Express expect to welcome their 10 millionth fan Sunday, July 5. The 10 millionth fan will receive a prize pack valued at over $26,000.
The Red, White & Blue Weekend presented by eBay Saturday festivities include post-game fireworks, a Brew Review presented by Budweiser, all fans run the bases, Malford Milligan playing an acoustic set at Brew at the Rock, and a screening of the baseball classic Field of Dreams. Sunday night includes Kids Run the Bases and post-game fireworks.
The Express and Sounds continue the series tomorrow night with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch. Round Rock RHP Phil Klein (1-0, 1.50) takes the hill against Nashville RHP Cody Martin (NR).
