Iowa Cubs News Release

Metairie, La. (July 4, 2015) - The Chicago Cubs have made a series of roster moves today affecting Iowa's active roster for tonight's game at New Orleans. Chicago selected the contract of catcher Taylor Teagarden and designated right-handed pitcher Gonzalez Germen for assignment. To make room on the 25-man roster, right-handed pitcher Donn Roach was optioned to Triple-A and is active for Iowa tonight.

Additionally, infielder Chris Valaika has been placed on the 7-Day disabled list (right knee strain) retroactive to July 3, catcher Taylor Davis has been promoted to Iowa and 2015 Chicago Cubs draftee Angelo Amendolare has been assigned to the I-Cubs.

Teagarden, 31, is batting .294 (37-for-126) with four homers and 19 RBI in 43 games with Iowa this season. He has appeared in parts of the last seven seasons with Texas (2008-11), Baltimore (2012-13) and the New York Mets (2014), batting .202 (100-for-495) with 21 home runs and 68 RBI in 172 games.

Germen, 27, is 5-1 with four saves and a 3.78 ERA (14 ER/33.1 IP) in 24 outings with Iowa this season. He posted no record and a 7.50 ERA (5 ER/6.0 IP) in six relief appearances for Chicago earlier this season.

Roach, 25, made one start with Chicago and allowed four runs on eight hits and a walk with one strikeout over 3.1 innings in a loss June 27 at St Louis. He is 7-1 with a 2.29 ERA (21ER/82.2IP) and 33 strikeouts to only 15 walks in 14 starts this season with Iowa.

Valaika, 29, is hitting .251 (54-for-215) with four home runs and 21 RBI in 70 games for Iowa this season. The veteran has appeared at all four infield positions for the I-Cubs in 2015. He had hit safely in nine of his last 13 games before the injury. Valaika joins Iowa outfielder Adron Chambers as recently disabled I-Cubs. Chambers was placed on the 7-Day DL July 1 with a sore right hip.

Davis, 25, hit .282 (31-for-110) with two home runs, 12 doubles and 10 RBI in 41 games for Iowa to begin this season in his first taste of Triple-A. He was reassigned to Double-A Tennessee on June 17 where he batted .333 (10-for-30) with four home runs, four doubles and nine RBI in nine games for the Smokies.

Amendolare, 22, was selected in the 27th round of the 2015 June draft by the Chicago Cubs out of Jacksonville University. The infielder has not appeared in a game for a Cubs affiliate yet this season. The first game action he sees with Iowa will be the first of his professional career.

With these moves, Iowa's active roster is at 23 players plus three players on the disabled list and one player on a major league rehab assignment.
