Calgary Hitmen News Release

Calgary, AB - Playing their first game in 18 days, the Calgary Hitmen were ready, jumping out to a 4-0 first period lead en route to a 6-3 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday afternoon at Seven Chiefs Sportsplex on Tsuut'ina Nation.

Calgary's opening period onslaught saw the club net four goals in a span of 3:11 led by sophomore forward Adam Kydd who notched a pair. Captain Josh Prokop and Cael Zimmerman added singles.

In the middle frame, the visiting Hurricanes roared back with three unanswered of their own, two off the stick of defenceman Alex Cotton and one shorthanded from Dino Kambeitz. However the Hitmen squashed the 'Canes momentum with a huge goal in the final minute from rookie Brandon Whynott who collected a rebound for his first career Western Hockey League marker.

Riley Stotts, into an empty net, capped the Calgary scoring with the only goal of the third period.

With the win the Hitmen improve to 7-6-2-0 and 3-1 against the Hurricanes.

Final shots were 36-34 Calgary as goaltender Brayden Peters made 31 saves to pick up the victory while Carl Tetachuk and Jared Picklyk combined to turn aside 30 shots for Lethbridge.

The two teams will resume their three-game set tomorrow, Saturday, April 24th in Lethbridge before the finale on Sunday, April 25th back at Seven Chiefs Sportsplex. Both are 7:00 p.m. starts.
