Swift Current Broncos News Release
Regina, Sask. - The Swift Current Broncos (5-16-1-0) finished off a five-games-in-seven-days stretch on a high note, downing the Regina Pats (8-10-2-1) 4-2.
The Broncos took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission thanks to a late goal by Michael Farren. Carter Stebbings took a shot from the left wing off the rush, and the rebound was put in by Farren, his eighth of the year, to put Swift Current ahead with 1:19 remaining in the period.
Regina pulled even on the power play nearing the halfway mark of the second period when Logan Nijhoff deflected in a shot from the blue line.
The two teams traded chances for the next nine minutes before Regina capitalized on another power play. Carson Denomie beat a screened Reid Dyck for his team-leading 14th goal of the season to put Regina ahead 2-1 with 3:40 left in the second.
Not to be outdone, Farren scored a power-play goal of his own with 1:42 left in the period to send things into the intermission tied at two.
Momentum swung in the third period after the Broncos killed off a Regina penalty. On the following shift after the penalty kill, Owen Williams fed the puck to Caleb Wyrostok streaking to the net as he redirected his fifth of the season past Spencer Welke to put the Broncos up 3-2.
The Broncos had the better of the chances in the third period byt couldn't put another one past Welke before Aiden Bulych hit the Pats empty net from centre ice to seal the win. Dyck turned aside 31 shots for his third win of the season.
Swift Current is now off for two days before facing the Moose Jaw Warriors on Sunday at 4:00.
