Freedom welcome new manager
July 10, 2004 - Frontier League (FL)
Florence Y'alls News Release
Today at 5:00 I met with my players and wanted them to be the first to know that Mike Easler will be assuming the role of Manager of Florence Freedom Professional Baseball as of July 16, 2004, after the All Star break. Chris Hook will assume the additional role of Director of Baseball Operations as well as maintaining his current position of Pitching Coach. Jeff Detkas and Tom Eckerly will remain in their current coaching positions. Pete Rose, Jr. will have a coaching position with the Freedom until he is picked up by another team as a player. The Frontier League has a 27 year old age restriction, therefore, making Rose ineligible to play but he has been a great acting manager.
Easler was not a new name in the club house. Tom Browning and myself had spoken with him during the winter about being the hitting coach for the Freedom while he was the hitting coach for a team in the Mexican winter league. He became the Manager of that team and took that team to play offs and just finished on Monday of this week. When Mr. Browning was no longer with the Freedom, Chris Hook and myself spoke with Mike and this was the outcome of those negotiations.
The players seemed happy with the decision, knowing that their new Skipper is on his way in next week and that it's already a name they know around the clubhouse. Now let's bring on some wins!!
