Rockford RiverHawks News Release

ROCKFORD, Ill. – Two Frontier League all-stars provided bookends to the Rockford RiverHawks' doubleheader sweep.

Aaron McEachran homered and extended his hitting streak to 11 games and Justin Dowdy saved both ends of the RiverHawks' 6-3, 4-1 sweep of the River City Rascals in front of 3,110 at Marinelli Field.

McEachran had two hits in each game. His hitting streak is the longest by a Rockford player this year.

In the opener, Chris Klosterman hit a two-run homer in the top of the fourth inning to give the Rascals a 3-2 lead, but the RiverHawks rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the inning.

The ‘Hawks rallied for three in the sixth inning to break the tie. Dave Bernstine's sacrifice fly drove in the winning run. Joe Thatcher (0-1) lost in relief.

Jesen Merle (2-1) pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief for the win. Dowdy got all-star Zack Riera to hit into a game-ending double play. Dowdy, activated from the disabled list on Saturday, is a two-time Frontier League all-star. He was last year's closer, but had not relieved in a Frontier League game in a year before Saturday.

In the nightcap, RBI singles in the second from Kiley Vaughn and McEachran in the third gave the ‘Hawks a 2-0 lead. McEachran homered off starter and loser Steve Brook (5-1) in the fifth. His seventh of the year was a solo shot just inside the right-field foul pole.

Frank James (6-3) pitched into the sixth for the win. Merle bailed him out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam, then Dowdy pitched a scoreless seventh inning for his second save of the night.

The series continues with a 6:05 p.m. ballgame. Softee Ball Night is sponsored by Fazoli's and ESPN 1380.
