Rockford RiverHawks News Release
ROCKFORD, Ill. â The rain came down at the worst possible moment.
With the bases loaded with the tying and winning runs and two down in the bottom of the sixth inning, rain forced a halt to play at Marinelli Field and the visiting Springfield/Ozark Ducks picked up a 5-3, rain-shortened win.
The RiverHawks' loss, along with Windy City's 4-2 win at River City, reduced Rockford's lead on the second-place ThunderBolts to one game.
Springfield scored two unearned runs off Rockford starter Jason Pilkington in the first inning. Brian Kirby walked with the bases loaded to force in a run. Dave Fischer's sacrifice fly made it 2-0. Pilkington (4-2) didn't survive the fifth inning.
Springfield starter Cody Fisher (5-3) pitched into the sixth inning and got the win.
The River City Rascals come in for a three-night, four-game series that leads up to the Frontier League all-star break. The series kicks off with a 5:05 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday. It's two games for the price of one, as well as two promotions for the price of one. Travel Mug night is sponsored by Bryden Motors and WB-14. Rock Valley College sponsors the Postgame Fireworks Spectacular.
