Gateway Grizzlies News Release

The Gateway Grizzlies will be having a Salute to Groundskeepers tonight, Saturday July 10, 2004 at GMC Stadium.

The Grizzlies will be honoring Craig Kuhl, the 2002 and 2003 "Groundskeeper of the Year" in the Frontier League.

Kuhl, arguably one of the best groundskeepers around, has been with the Grizzlies now as the head groundskeeper for three years after spending three years on the St. Louis Cardinals ground crew.

The Grizzlies will honor Kuhl with the night off of his services. Kuhl will be placed in the best seats in the house where he will sign autographs for fans. Along with having the night off, Kuhl will be honored with a John Deere Gator parade and General Manager Tony Funderburg will award him a golden rake. Funderburg says, "In rain and in perfect weather, he works as hard as anyone I've ever seen and truly loves this field." All promotions for the night will be based around Kuhl. There will be wheel barrel races and a farmers tan contest. The grounds crew will be wearing shirts that say, "Craig's Crew" and will be polishing his equipment for him while it is on display on the concourse during the game.

Along with a Salute to Groundskeepers, tonight was also supposed to be Craig Kuhl Bobble head night. Unfortunately, problems occurred during the shipping process causing the bobble heads to not arrive on time. The first 1,000 fans will instead receive a t-shirt that says, "I came to GMC stadium to get a Craig Kuhl bobble head and all I got was this lousy t-shirt". Fans will also be given a ticket to another game along with a voucher that will be redeemable for the bobble head.
