FREEDOM FALL ONE BIG HIT SHORT FOR SECOND STRAIGHT NIGHT

FLORENCE, KY - After Friday night, the Florence Freedom might be suffering from a case of déjà vu, as for the second straight night they fell one run short to the Washington Wild Things, dropping the game 4-3.

With the same exact scenario set up for them as saw on Thursday night, the Freedom had the bases loaded, one out, and came away on the short end.

Nick Peterson picked up his tenth save of the season after loading the bases on two walks and Brad Hough's pinch hit infield single. But Peterson then struck out Matt Stiffler for out number two and Ryan Basham grounded out to second to end the game.

Thursday night, Tim Grogan struck out and Zach Goldberg popped up to short right as the Freedom fell 9-8 stranding the bases loaded.

Jimmy Stanley (0-1) suffered the loss as he blew his second save opportunity of the season. The opportunity was set up after Billy Mottram's (20) two-out solo blast in the bottom of the eighth inning put the Freedom up 3-2.

For Mottram it was his third home run of the series and ninth overall in 2009 against Washington in nine games.

Erold Andrus' two-run single in the first put the Freedom up 2-0. Preston Vancil, fresh off his no-hitter against the Traverse City Beach Bums on Sunday, took the two run lead with him into the fourth.

Vancil's 19 consecutive innings streak without giving up an earned run came to a close in the fourth when two walks, a hit and an error resulted in two runs, one being earned, tying the game at two.

The right-hander went six innings and struck out nine with six walks on 132 pitches in the no decision.

Florence (31-31) dropped the series 2-1 to the Wild Things and finished the homestand 4-2. Next up is a trip to Traverse City, Michigan for a three game set against the Beach Bums. Game time for Saturday night is set for 7:05 p.m. Follow the team while they are on the road at Classic Country 106.7 FM WNKR or www.1067WNKR.com.
