Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti News Release
After falling early 7-1, the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti fought back only to lose 7-6 to the Kalamazoo Kings Friday night at Homer Stryker Stadium.
The Kings struck first, scoring at least one run in each inning from the second through the fifth. Kyle Wink let up all the Kalamazoo scoring in five innings of work, allowing seven runs on nine hits.
Joash Brodin started the Slider comeback in the fifth when he hit a solo homer. The sixth inning Midwest really rallied to score five runs, while sending ever batter to the plate.
The scoring was anchored by a Sam DeLuca two-run homer, and a two-run single provided by Jonnie Knoble.
Sliders bullpen came on and did their job not allowing a single hit after the sixth inning. Earl Oakes struck out four batters in two innings, and Arshwin Asjes threw a scoreless eighth.
Four Slider base-runners were left on base between the seventh and eighth innings Midwest couldn't tie up the game.
Midwest comes back to Ypsilanti for a six game home stand that will start with the Washington Wild Things. Saturday's game will begin at 6:05 p.m. as Mike Penn will take the mound at EMU's Oestrike Stadium.
