Lake Erie Crushers News Release
Traverse City, MI - For the second consecutive night, the offense of the Lake Erie Crushers was shut down as the Traverse City Beach Bums went on to win a 1-0 pitcher's duel at Wuerfel Park on Friday evening. Andrew Stafford's RBI hit down the right field line plated Brandon McArthur with one out in the 11th inning for what would be the lone run of the game.
The extra inning loss spoiled a tremendous debut for Lake Erie right-hander Cardoza Tucker, who threw seven scoreless innings, allowing just two hits. He walked three and struck out one. But the Traverse City pitching staff proved to be just as effective, holding Lake Erie scoreless on just four hits in the 11 inning marathon. David Dinelli, B. J. Hagen, and Shawn Joy all combined for the shutout.
Lake Erie's best chance to score came in the 10th inning against Joy, as Arden McWilliams led off with a bloop single. Wayne Bond was safe at first as he laid down a bunt and Kylee Hash moved each of the runners over with a sacrifice of his own. After an intentional walk to Jodam Rivera with one out, Joy came back to get Drew Saylor to hit a comebacker to the mound, and then struck out Andrew Davis to end the threat. Lake Erie was 0-for-10 hitting with runners in scoring position on the night.
Joy ended up picking up the win to improve to 4-0, while Jacinto Gonell took the loss for the Crushers to drop to 2-3
The Crushers are now 35-27 on the season and will return to All Pro Freight Stadium on Saturday night to host the Kalamazoo Kings at 7:05 P.M. Jorge Charry will start for Lake Erie against Carson Bryant.
