Florence Y'alls News Release

FLORENCE, KY - The Florence Freedom came out on a mission with five runs in the first, carrying them to an 8-3 win and sweep over the Rockford RiverHawks Sunday night at Champion Window Field.

Florence finished up the homestand at 5-1 and have now won four straight. The team is doing all it can to stay alive for the final playoff birth in the Frontier League. With the win, the Freedom sit seven games back of the Southern Illinois Miners with 13 games left to play.

After doubling in the first inning to lead off the game, Tim Grogan clubbed his eleventh homer of the year in the second to put the Freedom up 6-0.

That was more than enough for Freedom starter Chuck Tiffany. The left-hander improved to 4-0 in his past four starts and has only allowed five earned runs over his past 23 innings. Tiffany sits at 4-1 on the year after going six innings of one run ball Sunday against Rockford.

With the Freedom leading 7-2 in the eighth, Grogan connected for his third hit to drive in Florence's final run. Grogan finished 3-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

Florence's Ryan Basham went 2-4 including his team leading 22nd double.

Saturday night's victory was the last game Florence will ever play against the Rockford RiverHawks in the Frontier League. Rockford will join the Independent Northern League in 2010. Rockford finishes with the all-time series lead against the Freedom at 18-16.

Next up for the Freedom (41-42) is a seven game road trip beginning Tuesday with a double header at the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti. Catch the Freedom while the team is on the road on Classic Country 106.7 FM WNKR or www.1067WNKR.com.
