Windy City ThunderBolts News Release

Robert Perry had three hits and scored three runs and Dustin Pease held the Wild Things at bay through seven innings as the Windy City ThunderBolts completed a sweep of the Washington Wild Things, winning 8-1.

The ThunderBolts wasted no time in getting out to an early lead as Perry tripled into the right-centerfield gap in the first inning, followed by a Pete Paris groundout, bringing Perry home for a 1-0 ThunderBolts edge. The lead would double in the third as Perry got in on the act again, walking, stealing second and coming home on a J. T. Restko single for a 2-0 Windy City lead.

There was no small ball to begin the fourth as after Kraig Binick walked to begin the inning, Vinnie Scarduzio jumped all over a Zach Groh pitch, sending it over the centerfield wall for a 4-0 Bolts advantage. Later in the inning, Tyler Farrar reached on a bunt single and moved to third on a throwing error before coming home on a Gilberto Mejia single.

Washington would tally a run in the seventh as with one out Brett Grandstrand tripled and came home on a Kyle Obal groundout to cut the lead to 5-1. Undeterred by that blip on the radar screen, Windy City put the game to bed in the next half inning as two walks and a hit batsman loaded up the bases for Pete Paris who, on the first pitch he saw, lined a double down the rightfield line, clearing the bases and putting the Bolts up 8-1.

The runs were more than enough for Dustin Pease (10-6) who went seven innings allowing one run on four hits. Zach Groh (5-4) took the loss for the Wild Things.

Windy City returns home on Tuesday beginning the final homestand of the regular season as the Bolts take on the Gateway Grizzlies. Carson Bryant (1-3, 5-04) will start the game for the ThunderBolts against Paige Dumont (4-4, 6.16) for Gateway. Windy City will be hosting a bus trip to Rockford for the final regular season home game on Sept 6. Tickets for the trip are $60 and include transportation to and from the game, a sandwich from Jimmy John's and beverages on the bus. To book your spot on the bus, contact Steve Lorenz in the ThunderBolts office. For game times, information or tickets, call 708-489-BALL or visit the team's website at www.wcthunderbolts.com
