SAUGET, IL- The Kalamazoo Kings scored twice in the top of the 10th inning Sunday evening and held on for a 12-10 series finale victory over the Gateway Grizzlies in front of 3,522 at GCS Ballpark.

It is the second consecutive extra inning finale between the two teams. The Grizzlies defeated the Kings in 14 innings last Sunday.

Collin Brennan suffered the loss for the Grizzlies. Brennan pitched the 10th. He retired the first two batters he faced, before he hit Scott Billak with a pitch. Billak went to second on a wild pitch. Brandon Anderson followed with an infield hit to short. Anderson beat the play to first and Billak scored from second to make it 11-10 Kalamazoo. Kyle Higgins doubled to the wall in right center to score Anderson with the second run. Higgins was out at third, trying to stretch the hit into a triple.

The Grizzlies (34-49) tied the game at 10 with a run on one hit in the bottom of the ninth inning. Kalamazoo (52-32) had taken a 10-9 lead on Destan Makonnen two-out homer in the top of the ninth. The Grizzlies used a four-run eighth inning to tie the game 9-9. Brandon Peters capped the inning with a two-run home run off of Kings' closer Dan Baerlocher.

Peters finished the game 3-5 with the homer and two runs scored. Breck Draper and Nate Lape each had two RBIs for the Grizzlies. Joe Agreste had two hits and an RBI in the loss for the Grizzlies. Wilson Matos added his eighth homer of the year.

The loss officially eliminates the Grizzlies from post-season play in 2009.

The Grizzlies and the Frontier League take a day off Monday. Gateway will travel to Crestwood, Ill. to begin a three-game series with the Windy City ThunderBolts Tuesday night. First pitch is 7:05 pm.
