Florence Y'alls News Release

WASHINGTON, PA - For just the second time all season when trailing after seven innings, the Florence Freedom came from behind to win 12-9 Wednesday night over the Washington Wild Things.

Florence rallied for 10 runs of the final three innings as they turned a 7-2 deficit into a victory.

Getting to the Wild Thing bullpen was key, as Erold Andrus' two run homer in the seventh chased Wild Thing starter Andy Schindling and cut the Wild Thing lead to 7-4. The Freedom would go on and score eight runs against the Things' pen.

With an added unearned run in the top of the seventh to make it 7-5, Demetrius Banks was called upon to pitch the bottom half. But two walks and two hits later the lead was back to four for Washington at 9-5.

But the visitors never said quit. Trailing 9-5 the Freedom rallied for six more runs. Five hits combined with the Wild Things fourth error of the ball game put Florence over the top. Brad Hough provided the go ahead triple off Justin Edwards and proved to be the game winning hit.

Johnny Welch added a solo homer in the ninth off Michael Lucas to pad the lead to three runs.

Jimmy Stanley picked up his first save as a professional by tossing a scoreless ninth.

Billy Mottram hit another home run, his sixteenth of the season in the third inning, giving him six in five games this season against the Wild Things.

Banks (3-2) was awarded the win despite walking five men in 1.1 innings. Edwards (2-2) suffered the loss. Andy Clark started for the Freedom and failed to make it out of the fifth inning. The right-hander allowed six runs and eight hits in 4.1 innings.

The Freedom (20-17) are now 10-6 on the road this season and go for the sweep of the Wild Things (15-23) Thursday night at Consol Energy Park. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. and fans can tune in while the Freedom are on the road at 106.7 FM WNKR.
