Freedom's Comeback Clinches Series; Defeat Wild Things 12-9

Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things (15-23), presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, blew a 7-2 lead, falling to the Florence Freedom (20-17) 12-9 Wednesday night at CONSOL Energy Park.
The Wild Things lead going into the eighth was 9-5. Thanks to a six run inning, the Freedom took the field in the bottom of the inning with an 11-9 lead, a lead they would not give back.
The Freedom sent ten batters to the plate in the inning, collecting six runs on five hits. Not that is was completely the pitchers' faults; the finger could be pointed at the Wild Things' defense. In the seventh and eighth innings, the team committed three errors and gave up nine runs combined.
The Wild Things attempt at a comeback in the bottom of the eighth was shutdown by an inning ending double play. Previously, relievers Demetrius Banks and Julio Soriano combined to walk the bases loaded.
Before it all fell apart, everything seemed to be going the Wild Things' way. They too had a six run inning of their own, an inning in which they sent 11 batters to the plate and allowed five different batters to collect RBIs. The Wild Things also got a solid start from pitcher Andrew Schindling. He went six and a third innings and gave up four runs on four hits, walking just one and striking out four.
Every Wild Things' starter had at least one hit in the game. The Wild Things' two leading hitters, outfielder Phil Laurent and first baseman Ernie Banks each had two hits and a RBI each. Shortstop Brett Grandstrand went 2-3 with a walk and a RBI.
Wild Things' reliever Justin Edwards took the loss, dropping to 2-2 on the season. Banks earned the win for the Freedom, improving to 3-2.
The Wild Things will look to salvage a win on the home stand, as they wrap up their series with the Freedom Thursday. First pitch is 7:05 p.m. with pre-game coverage on WJPA 95.3 FM set for 6:55 p.m.
