FLORENCE, KY - The Florence Freedom and Lake Erie Crushers split a doubleheader Friday night at Champion Window Field with the Freedom winning game one 3-2 and the Crushers taking game two 15-5.

Pitching was the name of the game in the first contest. Everett Saul went 5.1 innings and took a shutout with him into the sixth inning. He was lifted after he allowed a one out home run to Andrew Saylor with a man on.

Demetrius Banks and Jonathan Miller continued their bullpen excellence for Florence as Miller saved his sixth of the season for Saul who improved to 4-1.

Tim Grogan hit a two-run home run for the Freedom in the second to put them on top 2-0. It was Grogan's second of the season and first since returning from the disabled list.

Ryan Basham provided a two out RBI single in the third for the only other Freedom run.

Lake Erie left no doubt in game two as they avoided the sweep. The Crushers hit two home runs as they took a 6-0 lead after the first half inning against Freedom right-hander Andy Clark.

Johnny Welch and Brad Hough both hit two-run home runs for the Freedom in game two. Welch's came in the first to make it 6-2 and Hough's came in the fourth which made it 10-4 after Lake Erie put up a four spot in their half of the second inning.

Erold Andrus hit his first home run of the season for the Freedom in the seventh to conclude the scoring at 15-5 Lake Erie.

Clark (2-3) lasted just 1.1 innings in his shortest start as a professional. He allowed 10 runs, eight earned, which also was a career worst.

The Freedom (18-15) still managed to take two of three from the Crushers (18-15) as the two depart in different ways tied for second place in the Frontier League East. Florence welcomes the Midwest Sliders into town on Saturday night at 6:05 p.m. on a Kiss 107 Ladies Night.
