Little League Teams With Beach Bums

Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich.-The Traverse City Little League received $1,845 from the Traverse City Beach Bums following Little League Day at Wuerfel Park on Sunday, June 21.
Local little leaguers sold tickets to the Beach Bums' game against the Florence Freedom as a fundraiser, while receiving many special benefits for their hard work. The little league teams competed to be the top sellers with the winning team, the Omelette and Finster Pirates, rewarded by joining the starting Beach Bums for the pre-game player introductions.
Beach Bums president John Wuerfel commented on little league day at Wuerfel Park.
"I grew up playing baseball as a little leaguer in Traverse City. It was a huge part of my life. Through sports, kids learn how to win, lose, and get along with others. Kids and baseball, this is what we are all about," said Wuerfel.
Mark Newhouse, co-chair of the Little League fund raising committee, also spoke about the event.
"The day was a huge success with about 500 kids and parents in attendance," Newhouse commented. "The Wuerfels and the Beach Bums have been very supportive and we hope to build of the success of this event."
When the Pirates little league team joined the Beach Bums for the pre-game introductions, it was the highlight of the day.
"You can buy a lot of things, but you cannot buy the smiles on those players' faces. The fact that they earned that opportunity by working hard and selling tickets to support their organization makes it even more rewarding," Wuerfel ended.
The little league will use the proceeds for field improvements.
