TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - The Traverse City Beach Bums walked off a 7-6 win over the Washington Wild Things on a FANtastic Fireworks Friday, scoring three times in the bottom of the ninth.

The Beach Bums were down to their final strike three times in the ninth before Mike Victor finally came through with the game-winning hit. Trailing 6-4 and facing Washington's closer Nick Peterson, Corey Whiting pinch hit to begin the frame and coaxed a walk. He moved to second on a passed ball. Mike Epping singled to score Whiting and was able to move up on an error. John Alonso walked and both runners executed a double steal to set the stage for Victor. Victor placed a 1-2 pitch into right to easily score Epping, Alonso rounded third and was able to knock the ball free to score the winning run.

Traverse City grabbed a 4-0 lead and appeared to be in control behind starter David Dinelli. Dinelli did not allow a hit until the fifth inning and left with the lead after walking one, hitting two, and striking out five.

Brian Lapin drove in all four of the runs. He came through with a two-out single in the bottom of the third to score Mike Epping and John Alonso, and doubled down the line in left on the first pitch of an at bat in the fifth inning to score Mike Epping and Mike Victor.

Washington rallied against the bullpen, scoring four times in the top of the sixth to tie the game. Jacob Dempsey drove in two runs with a double while Phil Laurent and Grant Psomas also drove in runs with extra-base hits. The Wild Things took a 5-4 lead in the seventh when Kris Rochelle was able to score from second base on a groundout. Washington picked up an insurance run with a Chris Sidick single to score Michael Parker with two outs in the ninth.

Shawn Joy got the win for the Beach Bums, improving to 2-0. Joy threw 2.1 innings of relief as the fifth pitcher of the game. Traverse City had 10 hits in the contest. Scott Billak, Mike Victor, Mike Epping, and Brian Lapin all had more than one.

The Beach Bums (17-16) will hit the road tomorrow for a 7:05pm game in Avon, Ohio against the Lake Erie Crushers. RHP Kevin Reese (4-1, 4.66) takes the ball for the Beach Bums against Lake Erie RHP Brent Lysander (3-0, 4.19). The game can be heard live on The Fox FM.
