Evansville Otters News Release
June 26, 2009, Evansville, IN - The Otters lost their second consecutive game to the Windy City Thunderbolts with their 6-3 defeat at Bosse Field Friday night. The Otters jumped out to a 1-0 lead after Tyler Diamond led off the second inning with a double and scored on Adam Kampsen's fielder's choice. Taking an early lead has proved to be an ominous sign though for the Otters, as they drop to 7-10 when scoring first. After Diamond tied the game at 2-2 with an RBI single in the third inning, Windy City took control.
Calen Sutton walked Nate Hall to lead off the âBolts half of the fourth inning. Sutton then plunked the next man up, Wilson Matos. One batter later, Gilberto Mejia laid a bunt down the right side that Javier Brown barehanded and threw away. Hall scored on the play, and Mejia and Matos advanced to second and third, respectively. After Damian Walcott was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Vinnie Scarduzio singled to drive in two runs. Windy City took a 5-2 lead that would be threatened only once.
In the eighth inning, two hit batters and an error loaded the bases with two outs for the Otters, bringing the go-ahead run to the plate. Eric Blackwell, who had singled and doubled earlier, grounded out to first base to end the inning.
Calen Sutton (0-2) lasted only 3.1 innings in his second start of the year, allowing five runs on six hits while hitting three batters. Dustin Pease advanced to 5-1 on the year, allowing two earned runs in 5.1 innings. Billy Petrick picked up his second save in as many days, pitching 1.1 innings to close out the Otters.
Evansville (10-23) will now head for Gateway to begin a three game series with the Grizzlies starting Saturday at 7:05pm CDT.
