Lake Erie Crushers News Release

Florence, KY - The Lake Erie Crushers struck early and would go on to pound the Florence Freedom by the final of 15-5 to gain a split in today's doubleheader. The Crushers finish their six-game road trip in Kalamazoo and Florence with a 3-3 mark.

The Crushers wasted no time getting to Florence starter Andy Clark in the first as Luke Hetherington hit an RBI single, followed by a three-run homer by Gordon Gronkowski. Lake Erie would not stop there as Wayne Bond would tack on a two-run blast to left to give the Crushers a 6-0 advantage.

After the Freedom scored a pair in the bottom of the first, the Crushers would add four more runs in the second on five consecutive hits. Hetherington hit his second RBI single in a row, followed by a Gronkowski RBI double, and a two-run single by Tim Binkoski to put Lake Erie up 10-2 after two innings.

Then in the fifth inning, the Crushers' Kent State connection would put the game away for good as Drew Saylor hit a two-run single with the bases loaded. That would be followed by an Andrew Davis three-run homer to put the Crushers ahead by a commanding 15-4 score. Davis finished the road trip with four home runs and 12 RBI in six games.

Brad Davidson picked up his first professional win for Lake Erie as he worked four innings, allowing four runs while striking out seven.

The Crushers return home to All Pro Freight Stadium on Saturday night as they'll start up a three game series with the Traverse City Beach Bums. Game time set for 7:05 P.M.
