Lake Erie Crushers News Release

Florence, KY - The Lake Erie Crushers could not rally from an early deficit and were beaten by the Florence Freedom in game one of their doubleheader at Champion Window Field by the final of 3-2 on Friday evening.

The Crushers fell behind early as Tim Grogan hit a two-run homer to put Florence on top 2-0 after two innings. Ryan Basham would make it 3-0 in the third on an RBI single. Meanwhile, the Crushers could do little against Florence's starter Everett Saul, who allowed just one hit through five innings.

Lake Erie finally broke through in the sixth as Drew Saylor blasted his team-leading sixth homer of the year to bring the Crushers to within a run. But the Freedom bullpen kept the Crushers off the board for the rest of the night. Saul picked up the win and Jonathan Miller recorded his sixth save of the season.

Kevin Skogley lost for the first time this season as the Lake Erie lefty allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits in five innings of work.

The Crushers and Freedom will finish up their series later this evening with game two of their doubleheader at Champion Window Field. Brad Davidson will get the start for the Crushers against Florence's Andy Clark.
