Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, member of the American Hockey League, announced today that goaltender Andy Franck has been released from his Professional Tryout Agreement and will return to the Youngstown Steelhounds of the Central Hockey League. With the move, the P-Bruins now have 23 players on their roster, including 13 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders.
Franck, 26, went 7-1-1 with a 2.71 goals-against-average in nine games for the P-Bruins since signing with the club on November 28, 2007. His most recent action came in Saturday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Worcester Sharks at the DCU Center, in which he stopped 33 shots along with one of three shootout attempts. The native of Lakewood, Ohio, made his AHL debut on December 1, 2007 against the Rochester Americans, besting the Amerks with 21 saves while allowing one goal and being named the game's third star. He went on to lead Providence goalies in wins (7), games (8) and minutes (488:52) for the month of December. Franck returns to the CHL, where he is slated to start the league's 2008 All-Star Game on January 16, representing the Northern Conference. He is 11-2-1 with a 2.40 GAA at the CHL level this season and was leading the league in wins at the time of his recall. The third-year pro out of Mercyhurst College began his career in the ECHL with the Wheeling Nailers, winning 60 games, including eight shutouts, in 114 contests over his two seasons prior to joining Youngstown.
Providence, the top team in the AHL with a record of 29-5-2-1 and 61 points, returns home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Friday to host Worcester at 7:05 p.m. On Saturday, the P-Bruins travel to the Cumberland County Civic Center for a 7:05 p.m. tilt with the Portland Pirates. Providence then wraps up the weekend Sunday, welcoming the Springfield Falcons to Rhode Island at 4:05 p.m. Information on P-Bruins season ticket packages and individual tickets for the 2007-08 regular season can be obtained by calling the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging on to the team website at www.providencebruins.com.
