Frederick Keys News Release
A fifth inning that saw Kinston batting with two outs and nobody aboard turned into a wild four-run Indians rally that turned the tide of a close pitcher's duel as the Keys were bested 8-3 by Kinston Saturday night.
The rally would include two infield hits and a fielding error that led to five consecutive base runners for Kinston. Four of whom would score. All runs were unearned off of Keys starter Rick Zagone but the damage was done.
Frederick took the lead in the third inning when 3B Bobby Stevens turned on a fastball in driving the ball over the left field wall for his first home run of 2010. The solo shot gave the Keys a 1-0 lead.
Zagone was easily moving through the Indians lineup when the rally began in the fifth inning.
Keys reliever Oliver Drake struggled when entering in the sixth inning as Kinston knocked out five hits, including RF Lucas Montero's two-run triple in a three-run rally. The Indians led 7-1. A solo home run from DH Abner Abreu in the seventh inning gave Kinston its largest lead of the night at 8-1.
Frederick would make it interesting though as RF Ronnie Welty blasted a tape measure two-run home run to left field to make it 8-3 in the eighth inning. The Keys then loaded the bases with nobody out in the ninth but reliever Matt Langwell came in and quieted the rally striking out two in a row before LF Xavier Avery flied out to end the game.
The series continues Sunday, May 16th at 2:00 p.m. as the Keys will have RHP Ryan O'Shea on the hill looking to salvage a game in the series. Coverage will begin at 1:40 p.m. on The Keys Baseball Network from Kinston, NC.
Frederick returns home for a week long homestand Monday, May 17th for Kids Eat Free Monday against the Potomac Nationals. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. at Harry Grove Stadium. For tickets contact the Keys Box Office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
