THE HILLCATS: Lynchburg dropped the series opener 6-3 last night to Winston-Salem at City Stadium...The Hillcats have now lost six of their last seven games and matched their low-water mark of the season at five games under .500...Tonight is the second game of a three-game series with the Dash and the second contest of a seven-game homestand for the Cats...

VS. WINSTON-SALEM: Last season the Hillcats went 11-9 against the Dash and were 6-4 at City Stadium...Lynchburg holds the all-time advantage in the series with Winston-Salem 154-144, and they are 86-65 in the Hill City...The Cats and the Dash are meeting for the first time this season in this series and the Dash enter with the best record in the league...

THE ROPE-A-DOPE: Last night Lynchburg scored the first run of the game with a two-out RBI by INF Alex Buchholz to take an early 1-0 lead...Winton-Salem scored the next four runs en route to their 6-3 win...Lynchburg has lost the last four games in which they have scored first and they are just 8-9 this season when scoring first...

JUST TAP IT IN: Lynchburg ended an 11-game stretch against the three worst teams in the Carolina League (when entering the 11 games) on Thursday night...They won the first three games they played against Kinston, but they then went went 2-6 the rest of the way...The first loss was to the Indians, then they dropped two out of three versus Myrtle Beach and then they dropped three out of four at Wilmington...This series starts a stretch of six out of eight sets against the three best teams in the CL (Winston-Salem, Frederick and Salem)...

YOU SPIN ME ROUND (LIKE A RECORD): After winning six out of seven games to pull back to an even .500 mark at 13-13, the Hillcats have lost seven of their last nine games and six out of their last seven heading into tonight...

CHRISTMAS CAME EARLY: Lynchburg has now committed eight errors in their last five games which has led to 14 unearned runs (at least one error and one unearned run in every game)...Last night they allowed four unearned runs in a three-run loss, Thursday night they allowed one unearned run in a one-run loss, Wednesday night they had six unearned runs in a three-run defeat, Tuesday night they had two in a one-run loss and on Monday night they had one unearned run in a one-run loss...In all five games the unearned run total equaled the difference in the game or exceeded it...The Hillcats have lost the last five games by a total of nine runs and in those five games they've allowed 14 unearned runs...

SILVER LINING: The Hillcats have lost three straight games heading into tonight, but their bullpen in those three games has not allowed an earned run in 13 and 1/3 innings of work...After allowing six earned runs in two innings of work on Tuesday night, the bullpens ERA was at 6.03...But now after going three games without allowing an earned run the pen ERA is down to 5.36...

UP THROUGH THE QUAD TO THE GYMNASIUM: Last night C Devin Mesoraco went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run to keep alive his consecutive on-base safely streak...He has now reached safely in his last 20 games (and hit in 17 of those)...Over that time he is batting .365 (27-for-74) with five doubles, two triples, five homers, 17 RBI, 15 runs scored, 12 walks and an OBP of .472...His on-base streak is the longest by a Hillcat this season and is six shy of the longest streak this year in the Carolina League (OF Brandon Short, Winston-Salem)...On Tuesday night he went 3-for-5 with a triple, a home run, four RBI and two runs scored...It was the first time this season a Hillcat has had four RBI in one game...On Monday night he went 4-for-5 with a double, a triple and a run scored...It was just the second time this season a Hillcat has collected four hits in a game (the other UTIL Neftali Soto on 5/1 vs. POT)...Mesoraco is now eighth in the league in batting average (.336), tied for third in home runs (7), fourth in on-base percentage (.431) and first in slugging percentage (.627)...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: LHP Justin Edwards was selected in the third round by the White Sox in the 2006 draft out of high school in Orlando, Florida...He made his professional debut that year at the Rookie level with Bristol and went 3-7 with a 5.30 ERA in 12 starts...In 2007 he advanced to full season Low-A Kannapolis and posted a 6-9 record with a 5.79 ERA in 27 games (21 starts) for the Intimidators...After missing all of last season after Tommy John surgery, he returned to Kannapolis last year and went 4-3 with a 3.80 ERA in eight starts before earning a promotion to High-A...With Winston-Salem he made 14 starts and went 6-2 with a 4.23 ERA...This season he returned to the Dash and has gone 4-2 with a 1.88 ERA in seven starts...He has made two starts against Lynchburg and has gone 1-1 with an 8.68 ERA...
