
Hillcats Fall Again To Dash

Lynchburg dropped their fourth straight on Saturday with a 7-5 loss to Winston-Salem on Saturday night at City Stadium. The Hillcats have now dropped four straight and lost seven out of eight games.
Winston-Salem struck first with a run in the top of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. Kyle Shelton doubled home the run in the frame. The Dash tacked on three more runs in the fourth inning to make it a 4-0 game. Seth Loman and Jason Bour both doubled in a run in the frame. An error aided those three runs and none of them were earned.
Lynchburg got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the lead to three at 4-1. Kevyn Feiner drove-in Carlos Mendez, who doubled to start the inning. The run broke up a streak of 17 straight scoreless innings by Dash starter Justin Edwards. In the fifth inning Winston-Salem got that run back with another unearned run, the fourth of the game. Kyle Day dropped a fly ball in right to allow a run to score and make it 5-1.
The Hillcats would rally though with pair of runs in the seventh inning and another in the seventh to pull back within a run. Kyle Day had an RBI double and Miguel Rojas tripled in a run in the sixth. And in the seventh Devin Mesoraco smacked his eighth home run of the season to extend his reached base safely streak to 21 games.
In the top of the eighth inning two more errors by the Cats, who matched their season-high with four on the night, led to another unearned run, the fifth of the evening and the ninth of the series. Lynchburg plated another run in the bottom of the inning with an infield single by Miguel Rojas to pull back within a run at 6-5. The Dash though would get an insurance run in the ninth inning to finish the scoring on an RBI single by Jon Gilmore.
The win went to starter Justin Edwards (5-2) and the save to Gregory Infante (6) for Winston-Salem (25-11). The loss went to starter Matt Fairel (3-1) for Lynchburg (15-22) ho has now lost a season worst four games in a row and dropped seven of their last eight contests. The Hillcats look to avoid the sweep on Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. at City Stadium. Right-hander Scott Carroll (1-2, 1.88) will ge the nod for the Cats opposite righty Nate Jones (3-1, 3.86) going for the Dash.
