August 21, 2015 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
Lynchburg drove home four runs in the bottom of the third to erase a two-run deficit en route to a 5-2 win over the Potomac Nationals on Friday night at City Stadium. Mitch Brown (9-11) turned in a quality start to earn his ninth win of the season.
ERROR LEADS TO RUNS
In the top of the third, Craig Manuel singled to start the inning and came around to score after a single by Rafael Bautista and a fielding error by Mike Papi to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead. Bautista advanced on the error and scored on a RBI groundout by Alec Keller to extend the lead to 2-0.
CAPITALIZING ON MISTAKES
Lynchburg had not recorded a hit in 9 1/3 innings spanning two contests until Ivan Castillo singled in the bottom of the third following a walk by Claudio Bautista to give the Hillcats runners at first and second with one out. Mike Papi tripled to drive home both runners and tie the game at two.
In the very next at-bat, Yhoxian Medina singled to bring home Papi and put the Hillcats ahead, 3-2. Joe Sever then roped a single to center that was dropped by Rafael Bautista and allowed Medina to score from first base to complete the scoring in the frame with the Hillcats leading 4-2.
MITCH CAN PITCH
Mitch Brown struck out four batters through the first two innings and cruised to his ninth win of the season. Brown allowed two unearned runs over six frames while surrendering five hits and striking out seven batters to record his 10th quality start this season.
MORE MISTAKES EQUAL MORE RUNS
In the bottom of the fifth, Ivan Castillo singled to lead off the frame and stole second base. Mike Papi singled to right, but the ball was misplayed by Narciso Mesa and allowed Castillo to advance to third and Papi to reach second. Yhoxian Medina hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Castillo from third and put the Hillcats ahead for good 5-2.
KEEPING UP WITH THE CATS
For the second consecutive night, Yhoxian Medina has driven in the go-ahead run that gave the Hillcats the win...This season, Medina is 18-for-51 (.353) at the plate with runners in scoring position and has recorded 19 RBIs...Mike Papi was the leadoff hitter for the Hillcats in the lineup on Friday night...In his first game in the leadoff spot since the first week of the season, Papi went 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple and two RBIs.
