CHARLESTON, SC - The Charleston RiverDogs scored four runs on only one hit in the eighth inning to defeat the Lexington Legends, 5-1, in South Atlantic League action Friday night in front of 5,782 fans at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

With the victory, the RiverDogs take the first game of this four-game series and improve to 54-51 on the season and 16-19 in the second half. The first-half Northern Division champion Legends slip to 57-47 overall and 14-21 in the second half.

Reegie Corona bunted to lead off the bottom of the eighth with the game tied at 1, and pitcher Chris Campos (1-5) threw the ball away for a two-base error.

After Ben Jones walked, Marcos Vechionacci hit the ball back to Campos again, and again the hurler threw wildly to first base, hitting the runner Vechionacci and allowing both Corona and Jones to score.

C.J. Henry followed with an RBI triple, the inning's only hit, to make the score 4-1. Henry later crossed home plate on a sacrifice fly by Estee Harris to complete the night's scoring.

Charleston's Keaton Everitt (1-0) picked up his first victory as a RiverDog, as the middle reliever pitched the seventh and eighth innings while scattering two hits. Starter Bryan Villalona pitched six innings and allowed one run on six hits, while fanning four.

Cory Stuart struck out all three batters he faced for a perfect ninth inning.

Lexington pushed its lone run across the plate in the third inning when Eli Iorg singled to left center to score Josh Flores, who opened the inning with a single.

The RiverDogs countered in the fourth when Ben Jones drew a walk from starter Brad James and moved to second on a passed ball. Jones advanced to third on C.J. Henry's single to right field and finally scored when Eduardo Nunez lined a sacrifice fly to left.

Henry led the Charleston attack with three hits, while Austin Jackson added a pair. Flores and J.R. Towles each had two base knocks for Lexington.

Game 2 of this four-game series is set for Saturday at 7:05 p.m. with Charleston sending southpaw Wilkins Arias (6-6, 3.86) to the hill, while Lexington counters with lefty Jake Hurry (0-0, 3.00).
