Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
CHARLESTON, WV (July 28, 2006) - The West Virginia Power, Class A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers have made another roster move.
Today, middle infielder Hector Bernal was placed on the disabled list due to his left leg injury on Thursday night, and Ryan Barba has been called up from the Arizona Brewers to take his place.
In fifth inning of Thursday night's game against the Charleston Riverdogs, Hector Bernal seriously injured his left leg while trying to turn a double play at second base. The extent of his injury is not known at this time, but he is expected to miss the remainder of the season. Bernal was hitting .203 with three RBI over 13 games with the Power.
Barba, who was signed by Milwaukee earlier this month as an undrafted free agent, played in seven games with the Arizona Brewers and hit .231 with seven RBI. Barba played his college ball at the University of New Mexico where he hit .329 with nine homeruns and 43 RBI during the 2006 season.
The Power will begin a four game series against the Savannah Sand Gnats at Grayson Stadium on Friday night. Right hander Carlos Martinez (4-4, 5.20) will make the start for Savannah and the Power will counter with right hander Shawn Ferguson (0-1, 16.62). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
