Four Emeralds Named to NWL All-Star Team

Four Eugene Emeralds were named to the 2019 Northwest League / Pioneer League All-Star Game on Wednesday afternoon. Fernando Kelli, Riley McCauley, Jake Slaughter, and Chase Strumpf will represent the Ems and the Northwest League as a whole when the team takes on the Pioneer League All-Stars in Boise, Idaho on August 6.

Eugene's is tied for the second-most NWL All-Star nods, trailing only the Hillsboro Hops (5). Kelli and Strumpf were both named as starters while McCauley and Slaughter will be reserves.

Fernando Kelli

Position: OF | Pro Season: 4th

This Season: .273 AVG, 11 doubles, 3 triples, 1 HR, 17 RBI, 15/21 SB, .342 OB%, .417 SLG%, .759 OPS

Kelli has served as the team's primary table-setter all season long, often setting the tone at the top of the Eugene lineup. Currently, Kelli ranks T-2nd in the NWL in stolen bases (15), T-2nd in triples (3) and T-2nd in doubles (11).

Riley McCauley

Position: RHP | Pro Season: 2nd

This Season: 0-1 (13 APPS | 19.1 IP) , 3.26 ERA, 5/6 saves, 12 BB, 31 K, .191 OPP AVG

An anchor at the back of the Emeralds bullpen, McCauley has served as the team's top closer, notching 5 saves so far this season, T-3rd in the NWL.

Jake Slaughter

Position: 1B | Pro Season: 2nd

This Season: .307 AVG, 6 doubles, 2 triples, 3 HR, 23 RBI, 6/8 SB, .368 OB%, .431 SLG%, .800 OPS

Slaughter has been as steady as they come this season while serving as a staple in the heart of the Emeralds lineup. The former LSU standout has spent the season thus far splitting time between third base and first base and has shown strong fielding ability at both positions.

Chase Strumpf

Position: 2B | Pro Season: 1st

This Season: .317 AVG, 7 doubles, 0 triples, 12HR, 11 RBI, 0/0 SB, .421 OB%, .533 SLG%, .954 OPS

Simply put, Strumpf has been sensational in his first professional season. A 2nd round pick out of UCLA, Strumpf has been cemented into the third spot in the Emeralds lineup since his arrival, however a recent minor injury has kept him sidelined since July 24 as a precautionary measure.

The NWL All-Stars will face off against All-Stars from the nearby Pioneer League, a Rookie-Advanced league that has a footprint covering Colorado, Utah, Idaho and Montana.
