Three C's Named to 2019 All-Star Game in Boise
July 31, 2019 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Boise, ID) - Vancouver Canadians RHP Adam Kloffenstein, INF Yorman Rodriguez and INF Trevor Schwecke have been named to the 2019 Northwest League All-Star Team that will take on the best of the Pioneer League on Tuesday, August 6th, 2019 in Boise, Idaho.
About our All-Stars:
Adam Kloffenstein - Right-Handed Pitcher
Kloffenstein, 18, has progressively gotten better as the season has worn on as the Magnolia, Texas right-hander has won each of his last three outings dropping his ERA to a respectable 2.27 over 35.2 innings of work. With 33 strikeouts and just 15 walks, opposing hitters are struggling against Kloffenstein's arsenal of pitches hitting just .195.
In his most recent outing, Kloffenstein went five innings against the North Division First-Half pennant winners from Spokane and limited the Indians offense to just two hits, allowing no runs while striking out seven.
Kloffenstein was selected in the 3rd Round of the 2018 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays.
Yorman Rodriguez - First Base / Catcher
Rodriguez, 22, has led the Northwest League in batting average for the past 22 days and is currently hitting .364 (52-for-143) with four (4) home runs and 21 RBI. Perhaps most impressive is that in his 154 plate appearances, Rodriguez has only struck out 12 times.
This marks the third season that Rodriguez has suited up for the Canadians as the native of Maracay, Venezuela hit .267 with one home run and 30 RBI in 45 games in 2018. This season, Yorman has already eclipsed his hit totals and heads into Wednesday's game with a 17-point lead on Spokane's Brandon Crim (.347) for top batting average in the Northwest League through 45 games.
Rodriguez was signed as a Non-Drafted Free Agent by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2015 and has a career .320 batting average through three levels over the past five seasons.
Trevor Schwecke - Infielder
Schwecke, 21, has been one of the most versitile Canadians playing at least seven games at four different infield positions in 2019 including 13 games at first base (.974). Offensively, Schwecke (pronounced shh-WECK-ee) got off to a slow but steady start in June hitting .232 (13-for-56) with a five-game hitting streak tucked into his first week of the season. In July, Schwecke's bat took flight as the former University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee standout hit .341 with six doubles and 14 RBI. His 28 hits in July are only surpassed by the 30 that teammate Yorman Rodriguez has been able to post.
Fans in Vancouver might not want to hear this stat but Schwecke is hitting just .225 out at Nat Bailey Stadium opposed to a .373 batting average on the road through 37 games in 2019. Schwecke missed four games in mid-July due to a slight knee strain, but since returning has hit .400 (6-for-15) and is hitting .351 (13-for-37) over his past ten games.
Schwecke was selected in the 13th Round of the 2019 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Toronto Blue Jays.
