Boise Hawks News Release
BOISE, ID - On the back of Alfredo Garcia's quality start and Yorvis Torrealaba's three-hit night, the Boise Hawks (Short Season A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies) defeated the Vancouver Canadians (Short Season A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays) 5-1 at Memorial Stadium.
Garcia tossed a gem going six innings with only one earned run allowed, six hits, a walk, and a whopping seven strikeouts. In Boise, Garcia has now collected 18 strikeouts over 14.2 innings pitched. Torrealba lead the way for the hitters going three for three with a double and a run.
Boise scored first in the home half of the second when Bryant Quijada knocked in Torrealba off an RBI-groundout giving Boise the early 1-0 lead.
Vancouver would answer in the top of the third with a solo home run from Yorman Rodriguez to tie it at 1-1. This was the fourth home run for Rodriguez on the season, and the first for the Canadians in the series.
The Hawks in the bottom of the fifth inning got three runs to come across when Aaron Schunk booted a single into left field to score Ezequiel Tovar to retake the lead at 2-1. Schunk would later score off a wild pitch and a few batters later, Joe Aeilts lifted a sacrifice fly into right to score Michael Toglia and make it 4-1 Boise.
Later in the Bottom of the seventh inning, when Torrealba was batting, Schunk aboard at third with Aeilts at first, a balk was called on Canadians pitcher Mike Pascoe and Schunk was sent to home plate to make it 5-1 Boise.
The Hawks bullpen solidified the run foundation. The platoon of Bobby Johnson, Braxton Lorenzini and Colton Hathcock combined for three innings (one each), no hits, no runs and five strikeouts.
The Hawks will face off against the Canadians in game three of the series Wednesday night with a first pitch set for 7:15 and post-game fireworks are scheduled.
