Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Toledo, OH- Pushing their unbeaten streak to 12 games (10-0-0-2), the Kalamazoo Wings completed an improbable comeback scoring three answered, including two goals in the final three minutes of regulation to defeat the Toledo Walleye 4-3 at the Huntington Center.
After no scoring in the first period, each team had no trouble scoring in the second period, staring with the Walleye who took the lead with a power-play goal from Mike Hedden (23rd) 3:53 into the stanza.
Kalamazoo responded midway in the period with a high-slot wrister from Andrew Fournier (32nd); however, Toledo needed just 23 seconds to regain the lead with a goal from former K-Wing Tyler Doig (17th).
Keeping momentum on their side, the Walleye reeled in another tally 1:30 after Doig's go-ahead marker with Hedden's (24th) second of the night.
Battling back late in the period, Trent Daavettila (22nd) knocked in a rebound to extend his point streak to eight games and to cut the K-Wings deficit to a single goal.
Pulling even with less than three minutes remaining in the game, Kory Karlander found Patrick Asselin (21st) to the right of the net for the equalizer. The goal tied Asselin with Karlander for the team-lead in power-play tallies with 11. Besides Karlander, assisting on the goal was Aaron Clarke, who earned his 100th career assist on the tally.
Completing the comeback with 47.5 remaining, Karlander (28th) notched his team-leading 65th point of the season scoring the game-winner as he was knocked down to the ice in front of the Walleye net.
With the victory, the K-Wings lead the State Line Face-Off Series, presented by AmeriGas, America's Propane Company, with a record of 9-2-1-1.
