Colorado Eagles News Release

WINDSOR, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles, proud affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche, announced Friday that forward Derek Rodwell has officially announced his retirement from professional hockey. The 26 year-old posted 34 points and 96 penalty minutes in 122 regular season games with Colorado. He also appeared in eight postseason contests with Colorado, collecting one goal and one assist.

"I can't thank everyone in the Eagles organization enough for giving me the opportunity to play pro hockey with them and making it so memorable," said Rodwell. "I would like to thank Chris Stewart and the coaching staff for always giving us every tool to succeed, my teammates who have become lifelong friends, and the fans who made being an Eagle so special with their tremendous support. I will forever be in debt for my experiences I gained with them and wish them the best of luck this season!"

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound winger saw action in four games this season with the Eagles after battling through an injury-plagued start to the season. A 5th round pick of the New Jersey Devils in the 2009 NHL Draft, the Taber, Alberta native spent four seasons at the University of North Dakota, where he registered 24 points in 123 games. He also helped UND capture WCHA championships in both 2011 and 2012, while being named to the WCHA All-Academic Team in 2012 and 2013.

Rodwell enjoyed a very productive career at the junior level with the Okotoks Oilers of the AJHL, where he posted 101 points and 146 penalty minutes in 158 total contests. During his final season with the Oilers, Rodwell potted 18 goals and added 35 assists in 55 games.

The Eagles return to action when they conclude a two-game set against the Adirondack Thunder in Glens Falls, New York on Saturday, December 3rd.
