Fort Wayne, Ind. - The Fort Wayne TinCaps scored four runs in the fourth inning to build a 5-0 lead and went on to defeat the Dayton Dragons 10-4 on Tuesday night. The game was the opener to a six-game series in Fort Wayne.

The loss was the third straight for the Dragons as they issued 10 walks for the second straight game. Dayton hitters collected eight hits and pulled to within two runs as they tried to battle back from the early deficit, but the Fort Wayne offense continued to add runs over the final five innings of the game.

Trailing 5-0 in the top of the fifth, Dayton's Juan Martinez singled to start a rally. Alex McGarry doubled off the fence in left-center field to move Martinez to third, and Allan Cerda, in his first game with the Dragons, lined a double to left to drive in two runs. A double by Michael Siani moved Cerda to third, and Quin Cotton's sacrifice fly drove in Cerda to make it 5-3.

But Fort Wayne scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and three more in the seventh to extend their lead to 10-3. The Dragons scored in the ninth on a double by Martinez and an RBI single by McGarry to account for the final tally.

Michael Siani had a triple and double while making a specular diving catch in center field for the Dragons. Martinez and McGarry each had two hits including a double.

Dragons starting pitcher Carson Spiers (4-3) struggled with uncharacteristic control problems. He walked four and hit one batter in three and one-third innings, allowing five earned runs and five hits with one strikeout to take the loss.

The Race: The Dragons remained two games out of first place in the East Division standings, trailing Lake County and Great Lakes, who are tied for first. Cedar Rapids leads the Dragons by three and one-half games in the race for the final playoff slot.

Up Next: The Dragons (50-47) battle Fort Wayne (47-50) again on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. Lyon Richardson (2-5, 5.16) will start for Dayton against Fort Wayne's Danny Denz (0-1, 1.82).

Notes: Dragons starting pitcher Eduardo Salazar was promoted to Double-A Chattanooga on Tuesday. Cerda was moved up to the Dragons from Daytona, where he was leading the team in home runs, RBI, and extra base hits.
