St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN (June 24, 2010) - Kevin Millar began his professional career with the St. Paul Saints and used that to catapult himself to a very successful Major League career. It appears another former Saint is well on his way to doing the same thing as pitcher Tanner Scheppers, who played for the Saints in 2009, was selected to the XM All-Star Futures Game.

The 23-year-old Scheppers began the 2010 season at Double-A Frisco in the Texas Rangers organization. He was dominant in his six appearances out of the bullpen going 0-0 with a 0.82 ERA and two saves in 11.0 innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out 19 while opponents managed just three hits against him, good for a .079 average. He was promoted to Triple-A Oklahoma City where the dominance hasn't waned. He is 1-0 with a 3.23 ERA and one save in 11 games (three starts). In 30.2 innings he's walked 13 and struck out 39 while opponents are hitting a miniscule .230 against him.

Last season with the Saints Scheppers was 1-1 with a 3.32 ERA in four starts. In 19.0 innings he walked 11 and struck out 20 while opponents hit .243 against him. He was selected by the Rangers as the 44th overall pick in the 2009 June Amateur Draft.

The XM All-Star Futures Game is a showcase of the minors' top prospects featuring a team of U.S. players against a World team and will be played two days before the Major League All-Star Game at 5:00 p.m. central time on July 11 and will be broadcast on ESPN2, MLB.tv and XM 175.

Since 1993, 97 Saints players have had their contract purchased by Major League organizations.
