Cats Win in Extras to Take Series

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts lost 3-1 in 10 innings to the Fort Worth Cats at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Thursday night.

John Allen hit a tie-breaking home run off of Doug Hurn in the top of the 10th to put Fort Worth in front. Brian Fryer opened the inning with a double down the right field line and advanced to third when Hurn was charged with a balk. Allen homered on the next pitch to give the Cats their first lead since the fifth inning.

Justin Holloway drove in the first run of the night with an RBI groundout to short in the top of the fourth against Luke Massetti.

Massetti battled through seven innings, allowing just one run on eight hits and stranded nine runners on base.

The Wingnuts tied it in the bottom of the fifth after there were two outs and no runners on. Eric Williams singled through the left side, stole second, and came home on Ryan Patterson's RBI single to left-center. The Wingnuts however, had only two baserunners the rest of the night, both of which were erased on double plays by the next hitter.

Colin Allen pitched eight innings for the Cats, allowing one run on five hits. Dustin Pease pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Massetti. Hurn was charged with the loss for the Wingnuts while Justin Vaclavik earned the win. Dustin Cameron pitched a scoreless 10th to pick up the save.

The Wingnuts hit the road for a three-game series in St. Paul beginning Friday at 7:05 p.m. Sean Teague goes to the mound against Saints' lefty Ryan Morse.
