Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs swept Sioux Falls out of Haymarket Park Thursday, beating the Pheasants 7-3. Lincoln improves to 24-14 on the season, and stands one game out of first place.

Saltdogs starter Tim Brown (5-2) turned in perhaps his best start of the year, holding the powerful Sioux Falls to just four hits in his eight innings of work. The Pheasants scored single runs in the second, fourth and sixth innings, one of which was unearned, but only twice did they have more than one runner on base against Brown.

Lincoln, meanwhile, got to Sioux Falls starter Ryan Rodriguez (4-2) in the bottom of the third inning, plating four runs on five hits. Albenis Machado plated the first run on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded, Phil Hawke followed with an RBI single, and Juan Richardson finished off the scoring with a two-run single. The Pheasants' runs in the fourth and sixth innings pulled them to within a run at 4-3, but Shawn McGill hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth, and Chris Brown immediately followed with a solo shot to set the final margin. Tim Brown retired the last seven batters he faced, and Nolan Chestnut tossed a perfect ninth inning to complete the three-game sweep.

With the win, the Saltdogs close to within a game of the first-place Pheasants in the American Association North. Both teams have ten games remaining in the first half, including Lincoln's three-game series at Sioux Falls next week.

Richardson ended the night 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. McGill went 2-for-4 with two batted in, Chris Brown was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Roberto Alvarez finished 2-for-4, and Gavin Dickey ended up 3-for-5. The bottom four hitters in the Lincoln order (Richardson, McGill, Brown and Alvarez) combined for eight of Lincoln's 13 hits.

The Saltdogs next open a three-game home series against Sioux City Friday night at 7:05pm. Right-hander Chris Cullen will take the mound for the Saltdogs.
