Frederick Keys News Release

For the second time this week, LHP Giovanni Soto out dueled RHP Oliver Drake as the Kinston Indians defeated the Keys (22-18), 2-1, on Friday night. Frederick has dropped their last three games and following the Wilmington win this evening, the Keys are currently two games back in the Northern Division of the Carolina League.

After Drake retired the K-Tribe in order in the top of the first, RF Bobby Stevens led off the bottom of the first with a home run to left field. Stevens' third homer of the season was the first leadoff home run by a Key since Xavier Avery went deep against the Wilmington Blue Rocks on May 7, 2010.

The Keys held a 1-0 lead until the top of the fourth. With two on and no out, RF Bo Greenwell put down a sac bunt that moved DH Tyler Holt to third and 2B Casey Frawley to second. The next man to the plate was 3B Adam Abraham and he doubled over CF Miguel Abreu's head as Holt and Frawley scored to give Kinston a 2-1 lead.

Drake did not allow another run to score on the evening as he departed after 6.2 innings pitched. He surrendered two runs on five hits while walking three and striking out seven.

Frederick did not come through with runs in scoring chances in the fifth and seventh innings. In the bottom of the fifth, the Keys loaded the bases with two outs but Soto struck out Townsend to end the threat. In the seventh inning, C Brian Ward doubled to right field off RHP Travis Turek. After SS Garabez Rosa moved Ward to third on a sacrifice bunt, PH Jacob Julius and Bobby Stevens were retired in order to end the seventh.

RHP Adam Miller closed out the game for the Indians as he picked up his first save of the year. Kinston starter, Giovanni Soto, improved 3-3 after allowing one run over six innings. Soto also matched his season-high in strikeouts with eight on the evening.

In the losing effort, RHP Ryohei Tanaka tossed 2.1 scoreless innings of relief.

The K-Tribe and Keys will return to action on Saturday night when RHP Bobby Bundy (4-3, 2.70) takes the hill for Frederick. Bundy will be opposed by RHP Brett Brach (3-3, 3.62).

First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. on Little League Night at Harry Grove Stadium. Little Leaguers will be able to play catch on the field from 5-5:30 and fireworks will follow Saturday's game.
