Sox Pitching Coordinator Joins TV Broadcast

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (MAY 20, 2011) - Chicago White Sox minor league pitching coordinator Kirk Champion will be the guest color commentator during tonight's television broadcast of the Dash's game against the Salem Red Sox. Champion will join Dash broadcaster Alex Vispoli in the booth for the first-ever Carolina League telecast of Winston-Salem baseball.

Champion is in his 23rd season with the White Sox organization, and ninth season as the pitching coordinator. Before moving into his role, he served 14 seasons as a pitching coach throughout the White Sox organization. He was the pitching coach in AA Birmingham when NBA Hall of Famer Michael Jordan was on the team (1994).

Champion was the pitching coach for Team USA in the 2001 World Cup in Taiwan (Silver Medal), the 2006 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Havana, Cuba, and the 2009 World Cup in Italy (Gold). He was also on the coaching staff for the 2000 MLB Futures Game in Atlanta that featured White Sox starter Mark Buehrle and the 2001 International League (AAA) All-Star Team.
